"Stone paper" is a paper made of calcium carbonate as the main raw material, through the addition of some high-molecular polymer materials, and processed by a special process. Environmental protection, energy saving, and biodegradability are the main themes that "stone paper" producers have been propagating.
Technically speaking, the production of "stone paper" has the conditions for large-scale production. According to Mr. Jiang, the marketing manager of Chengdu Xinkeli Chemical Technology Co., Ltd., in the 1980s, some Chinese enterprises began to develop "stone paper" and its production equipment. At present, in addition to the relatively mature technologies in the United States, Japan, and Taiwan, there are also several domestic companies that have technologies and patents in this area, such as the EarthGuard Company and Chengdu XinKeli.
With sufficient raw materials, resource saving, and environmental protection in the production process, in the eyes of producers, "stone paper" is undoubtedly an important representative product that conforms to China's new energy development industrial policy, but it is not "perfect".
"From the current development situation, to solve the quality problem of'stone paper', there are two technical links that still need to be improved: one is to further reduce the weight of the paper, and the other is to solve the problem of the pen and ink drying slowly when writing." Zhang Chongwu, chief executive officer of Guardian, did not shy away from these issues.
Because the raw material of "stone paper" is mainly calcium carbonate in limestone, compared with plant fiber, the weight of paper of the same specification is heavier. In addition, because "stone paper" is generally composed of three layers of materials, that is, the upper and lower layers are calcium carbonate, and the middle is adhesive such as plastic, so it is not easy to store after writing.
With the improvement of technology, these problems are being solved gradually. At the signing ceremony on February 12, Zhang Chongwu also revealed to the media that the production process of part of the "stone paper" provided to the "two sessions" nationwide last year has been improved, and the weight of each A4 note has been increased. From 1.3 grams to 0.7 grams; in order to boost the circular economy, they are currently building a "stone-paper" paid recycling system that is the same as the used battery recycling system.
